Neural stem cells have the ability to become many kinds of mature neural cells, and are therefore an attractive source of cells for repairing the stroke-injured brain in regenerative medicine. One such mature cell type, an oligodendrocyte, is shown here growing on a modified hydrogel: a bioengineered scaffold that provides chemical cues to direct cell survival, adhesion, and maturation.
